Solids and liquids

What makes something a solid or a liquid, and how can heating or cooling change it?

Three low-cost lessons. Students heat and cool water and other materials on the iPad, test kitchen and school-yard materials to see which keep their shape, then melt chocolate and make it solid again. Lesson 1 needs only iPads; lessons 2 and 3 use water, ice, sand, pebbles, honey and chocolate.
