Living With Natural Hazards

How can people use science to reduce risks from fire, floods or erosion?

Flooding and erosion depend on rainfall, water flow, soil, vegetation and land use. Risk combines a hazard with exposure and vulnerability. Vegetation can slow runoff and protect soil, but no measure removes every risk. Fire management depends on place and conditions and is work for trained adults.
